Update: Police say deaths were the result of a double murder suicide.

State Police said July 5 that the three people found dead inside their homes Saturday are 71-year-old Svend Jorgensen, his 75-year-old wife, Carol Jorgensen, and their 40-year-old son, Eric Jorgensen. The son lived at the home on Montgomery Road, while the parents lived in their home on Lakeside Drive.

Detectives returned to the houses Sunday to gather evidence and are likely to be back on Monday, according to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland. Autopsies began Sunday in Augusta and will also continue Monday. Investigators continue to work on the circumstances of the deaths including the causes of death and the manner.

Police say they believe no one else is involved outside of the three persons found dead today inside two homes in Boothbay Harbor. Detectives are now investigating the circumstances of the deaths.

The discovery was made after local police had been called to conduct a well-being check on one of the properties.

Two bodies were found inside a home on Lakeside Drive and later a third body was found inside a home on Montgomery Road.
