Area businesses and the legislative process

PBRCC hosts Legislative Summit Breakfast in Rockport

Mon, 01/19/2015 - 11:00am

ROCKPORT — The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Legislative Summit Breakfast with the Maine State Chamber at the Farmstead Event Center in Rockport, Friday, Jan. 30 from 8 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Peter Gore, vice president of government relations at the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, will kick off the morning with a discussion on how area businesses can play a more active and involved role in the legislative process within Maine and nationally.

The question to be tackled: "How can you, as a business owner, gain better access to, and stay apprised of, legislation that affects you and your business?"

Staci Coomer, executive director of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce said in a news release: "The idea is that we are connecting business to what they need to know to advocate for themselves and their industry, discussions about the economy, viewpoints of 2014 and what to expect for 2015. They may not be aware of issues that can affect their business, or that can help them. As a chamber, it is great for us to get a pulse on the priority issues and trends that make an impact in our region."

Helping to answer this question will be elected officials from Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties as they talk about priorities and expectations for the coming year.

Attendees will hear from Jaimie Logan, the governor's account executive at the Department of Economic and Community Development; County Commissioners along with state senators and representatives, such as Joan Welsh and Chuck Kruger.

Also in attendence will be Chris Rector, former state senator and Rrgional representative for Senator Angus King.

The event is sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank. Chamber member, Megunticook Market, will be providing breakfast.

Pre-registration is required for this event. The cost for the breakfast is $20 for PBRCC members and $25 for non-members.
