MONTVILLE — A Palermo man is facing a litany of charges following an April 10 altercation. Chesley Z. Williams, 27, was arrested after reportedly refusing to let a passenger leave his vehicle when she requested to.

According to Waldo County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jason Trundy, Williams was driving the vehicle while he and the female passenger argued.

During the course of the argument, the woman repeatedly asked Williams to let her out of the vehicle, only to have him refuse. Instead he kept driving, while continuing to argue with her.

Also present in the vehicle were two small children, both buckled into car seats in the back seat.

Eventually Williams pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road allowing the woman to exit.

Williams then removed the children from the vehicle, leaving the three on the side of the road while he returned to the vehicle.

“Then he took off,” spinning his wheels in the dirt and debris next to the road in the process, Trundy said.

The woman and children were “sprayed by dirt and rocks,” contributing to Williams’ arrest, Trundy added.

None of the three victims required medical attention as a result of the incident.

Williams was located a short time later and was reportedly cooperative with law enforcement.

He has been charged with assault, criminal restraint, two counts of criminal restraint of a child under eight, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Despite the number of charges, Trundy said he believes the number pursued by the Waldo County District Attorney may be significantly fewer.
