Open burning permits now available online for Lincolnville residents

    LINCOLNVILLE — Lincolnville Fire Chief Steve Gibbons has announced that Lincolnville residents and property owners can now obtain an open burning permit, either online or in person. Burning permits are required any time open burning is occurring, except in cases of residential use of outdoor grills for cooking, recreational campfires kindled on snow or ice or use of outdoor grills for recreational uses at campgrounds, so long as the campground carries a valid state license.

    To order online permits, there are two options.

    Warden’s Report - Online Burning Permit System
    • This is a free service. The permit is valid for one day. The permit holder can start burning at 9 a.m., and will need to print the permit to have with them at all times. Electronic notification of issuance of the permit is made to the Lincolnville Fire Department's chief officers and the dispatch center.

    Maine Forest Service - Open Burn Permit System
    • There is a $7 charge for this permit, with $2 of the fee returned to the town. The permit is valid for two days. The permit holder can start burning at 5 p.m., and will need to print the permit to have with them. Electronic notification of issuance of the permit is made to the Lincolnville Fire Department's chief officers and the dispatch center.

    To obtain a permit in town, in person:
    • Written permits are available at Mike's Align and Repair and at Drake's Corner Store. This is a free service. The permit is valid for one day. The permit holder can start burning at 9 a.m. No notification to local officials is made regarding these permits.
