Oceanside baseball, softball post 29 runs against Winslow

WINSLOW — The Oceanside baseball and softball teams were vicotrious in road contests against Winslow on Friday, May 18. 

Both programs crossed home plate at least a dozen times with the Oceanside baseball team scoring 16 runs and the Oceanside softball team scoring 13 runs. 

Oceanside baseball improved to 10-2 with the win, while Winslow dropped to 1-12.

Baseball: Oceanside 16, Winslow 6

Oceanside plated five runs in the first inning, one in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and six in the fifth, while collecting 18 hits and committing two errors. 

Winslow plated a run in the first inning, three in the fourth and two in the fifth, while collecting six hits and committing two errors. 

At the plate for Oceanside were Michael Norton Jr (three singles), Ben Ripley (three singles, three RBIs), Zach Cody (two singles, double, two RBIs), Uriah Thongsophaphone (two singles), Connor Harvey (two RBIs), Titus Kaewthong (single, double) and Logan Sheridan (two singles, three RBIs). 

Leading the way at the plate for Winslow was Kevin Turner (two singles, two RBIs). 

Softball: Oceanside 13, Winslow 0

Oceanside plated two runs in the first inning, one in the fourth and 10 in the fifth, while collecting 13 hits. 

Winslow collected three hits and committed two errors. 

In the pitcher’s circle for Oceanside was Chloe Jones, who fanned six batters and walked two. 

In the pitcher’s circle for Winslow was Paige Trask, who fanned two and walked five. 

At the plate for Oceanside were Casey Pine (triple, double, two RBIs, three runs), Abby Veilleux (triple, single, RBI, run), Rachel Joyce (two doubles, RBI, two runs), Hannah Moholland (two singles, RBI, three runs), Kalli Grover (two singles, two RBIs) and Adrianna Whitamore (single, RBI). 

At the plate for Winslow was Paige Trask, who colected two singles. 

“This young Oceanside [s]oftball [t]eam put together their best game of the year, it was a pleasure to watch from the coaches box,” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. “We went to Winslow who was ranked [third] and [worth] a lot of good healpoints and we came out of there with a commanding victory. These young ladies put all aspects of the game together tonight.”

Worcester had praise for Pine’s performance at the plate as the team’s lone senior. Worcester also credited the team’s juniors — Jones, Joyce, Grover, Moholland and Veilleux — as being the “heart and soul of the team” and “very talented.” 

“I am very proud of these young ladies they continue to work hard at their game and we will continue to work hard as the season winds down,” Worcester said. “I would like to say thank you to our fan support, the parents and family and friends we love having you cheer us on each game.”
