Oceanside baseball, softball knock off Leavitt

The Midcoast sports scene was busy with several sporting events on Wednesday, May 3.

Below are the scores and stats for those contests that were reported to our sports department.

Varsity Baseball: Oceanside 10, Leavitt 1

Oceanside (4-1) scored two runs in the first and eight in the seventh. Leavitt (2-1) scored once in the fifth.

On the mound for Oceanside: Logan Sheridan (five innings, one run, one earned run, five hits, four strikeouts, three walks) and Jack Freeman (two innings, one hit, two strikeouts, one walk). 

On the mound for Leavitt: Tim Albert (six innings, two runs, two earned runs, five hits, eight strikeouts, three walks) and Allen Peabody (one inning, eight runs, four hits, two walks). 

At the plate for Oceanside: Jack Wadsworth (single, double, RBI), Coby Dorr (two singles, two RBIs), Connor Harvey (double) and Hunter Davis (double, two RBIs). 

At the plate for Leavitt: Darren Hewitt (double), Ian Godfrey (two singles), Tim Albert (two singles). 

Varsity Softball: Oceanside 8, Leavitt 1

Oceanside (4-1) scored one run in each the third and seventh innings and three runs in each the fourth and sixth innings. Leavitt (1-2) scored its lone run in the first. 

On the mound for Oceanside was Chloe Jones (seven innings, nine strikeouts, two walks).

On the mound for Leavitt was Abby Robertson (seven innings, four strikeouts, one walk). 

At the plate for Oceanside: Morgan Heal (single, double, RBI), Kalli Grover (single, double, two RBIs), Lauren Hatch (two singles, RBI), Jones (single, double), Abby Veilleux (single, three RBIs). 

At the plate for Leavitt: Kassie Murch (two singles). 

“We got great hitting from Morgan Heal, Kalli Grover, Lauren Hatch, and Chloe Jones with two hits a piece on the day,” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. “Lauren Hatch also made two great plays at third base today as well. Chloe Jones threw well again today with [nine] strike outs and [two] walks and only allowing [one] unearned run on the day. She was able to spot all her pitches and the ball was coming out of her hand very well today.”
