WALDOBORO – The 11-12 baseball State Little League tournament continued Sunday with two more pool play games to determine seeding in the tournament.

Opening Sunday’s action was District 6 (Westbrook) at District 2 (Oceanside) followed by Division 1 (Acadian) and Division 3 (Bangor West).

Monday will be the final day of Pool Play with Oceanside taking on District 4 (Biddeford) at 3 p.m. and the Acadians will battle District 5 (Hall-Dale) at 5 p.m.

Sunday’s Results
Westbrook 11, Oceanside 9… It was a valiant comeback attempt by the Oceanside team who dug too deep a hole to get out of early but came back from a 9-1 deficit to make it an exciting game.

Opening pitch for the first game Sunday was thrown out by Jon Olsen, a member of the 1952 Waldoboro Little League.

Westbrook scored three in the first inning, two in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth and sixth. Oceanside scored one in the first, three in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Pitching for Westbrook were, Kyle McKone (Win), Brady Desjardins, Colby Haynes, Lucas Knapton, and Caden Dow (Save). Combined they allowed nine runs, on five hits and 10 walks with eight strikeouts.

For Oceanside, Joe Curtis (L), Logan Putansu, Tim Farrelly combined for six innings allowing 11 runs on 12 hits and three walks while fanning 10.

Hitting for Westbrook were, – Lucas Knapton (2 singles, run), Colby Haynes (single, run), Brayden Demers (2 singles, 2 runs), Kyle McKone (3 singles, 2 runs), Matt Eugley (double), Brady Desjardins (double, home run, 2 runs) and Jake Thornton (double).

For Oceanside, Aaron Benner (single, triple, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Obie Miller (single, run), Jonah Carlson (single) Nathaniel Barnard (single), Nathan Coombs (run), Aidan Munro (run), Tim Farrelly (run), Tyler Sukeforth (2 runs) and Matthew Spear (run).

Oceanside did lose a significant player off their roster when pitcher Joe Curtis was covering the plate on a passed ball and his hand got jammed on the tag. A trip to the hospital proven the fingers not to be broken, but severely sprained. Curtis’ return is doubtful for the rest of the tournament.

GAME 2
Bangor West 11, Acadian 1… Bangor West held a 2-1 lead going into the top of the fifth inning when they exploded for nine runs and held off the Acadians for the five inning mercy rule win.

Bangor scored 2 in the fourth and nine in the fifth. Acadians scored one run in the second inning.

Bangor West Pitchers were, Carson Prouty (W, CG, 11 strikeouts, 4 walks, 3 hits)

Acadian Pitchers were, Sam Mitchell (L), Porter Isaacs, Brady Rebault combined allowed one run on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Bangor West Hitters – 1B – Rhett McDonald, 2B – Rhett McDonald, Drew Dory, Carson Prouty, Isaac Bushway, Landon Yu. 3B – Rhett McDonald

Acadian Hitters – 1B – Logan Beckwith, Brady Reanult (2)
