“Great win today for the [L]ady [M]ariners,” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. “[W]e hit the ball very hard all day but right at Nokomis gloves. Got to take your hat off to them they made the plays on defense. Finally in the ninth inning Alexis Mazurek lead off the inning with a line drive single to centerfield. Went to second on the first pitch which was a wild pitch. Hannah Moholland foul off a coup pitches and with a [one] ball [two] strikes lined another single to left field scoring Mazurek for the win. Mazurek has continued to swing a great bat all year leading the Mariners in hitting on the year.

“Chloe Jones pitched well again with 12 [strikeouts] and [four walks], the big inning was in the [eighth] when she walked the bottom two in the order and ended up with runners on second and third with no outs. Then she struck out the lead off hitter, got the number two hitter to ground back to her on the mound, she froze the runner at third and threw out the runner at first, then the number three hitter hit a line drive over first base where Mazurek jumped in the air and made a great catch to end the inning.

“Was very proud of the girls today they battled all day and were able to get over the frustrations of hitting the ball hard and they were caught for outs.”

7th Grade Baseball: Medomak 3, Troy Howard 2 (May 9)

Colby Brown, Cole Wallace, Garrett Hutchins and Jake Bickmore took the mound for Medomak and combined they only allowed one hit and two runs.

Medomak had three hits at the plate courtesy of Zack Benner, Wallace and Bickmore. Bickmore’s double provided the key RBI, according to Medomak coach Shep Brown.
