“Meeting the Neighbors”

ROCKPORT — On Wednesday, January 31, at 6 p.m., the Rockport Public Library will host a narrated slideshow program entitled “Meeting the Neighbors: An Introduction to Local Birds.” Evan Henerberry, founder of “A Neighborhood Naturalist” website and project, will discuss bird anatomy, diet, flight patterns, and community interactions.

Henerberry is an amateur wildlife photographer and semi-pro trail and whale watch naturalist. Though he started his naturalist journey focused on whales, he has since discovered the simpler (and much cheaper) pleasures of watching and learning about birds.

“Observing the animals I share my urban habitat with has been just as rewarding as tracking down 50-foot marine mammals,” says Henerberry, in a RPL news release. “As I've learned more about the animals I find closer to home, I've also felt my sense of the line between the human and natural world blur. We are all living things and impact one another — for better and for worse.”

Henerberry’s photography and teaching is focused on redefining what we think of as “natural” and who we see as our neighbors in our shared habitat. He currently works at Bigelow Lab for Ocean Science as an Education Coordinator. Learn more about Henerberry and his work at aneighborhoodnaturalist.com.
