ROCKPORT — The tennis courts at the Midcoast Rec. Center were packed this weekend with great tennis and good spirit as the annual USTA sanctioned New Years Open was held and featured players from all around Maine and New England. 

In the women’s draws, Caitlin Cass (Newcastle) defeated Jo Lindsay (Tenants Harbor) 6-2, 6-3 in the singles final.

In women’s doubles, Jo Lindsay (Tenants Harbor) and Marnie Read (Warren) defeated Betsy Kingsley (Cushing) and Allyson Poutasse (Rockport) 7-6, 6-2 in the final.

On the men’s side, Mike Burke (Lewiston) defeated Jai Aslam (Belgrade) 6-4, 6-4 to take the singles title.

In doubles for men, Seth Meyer (Camden) and Noah Capetta (Camden) def. Isaac Salas (Camden) and Jai Aslam (Belgrade) 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the final.

“We had a large number of players in the event this year,” said MRC tennis director Seth Meyer. “It’s always a fun weekend filled with great tennis.”
