According to the press release, detectives from the Sanford Police Department and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office have worked closely together to coordinate their investigation an search for Malmstrom.

Sanford learned Friday that Malmstrom was likely staying in the Boston area and they contacted the Boston Police to coordinate the search. According to the release, four hours after that contact, Malmstrom was observed leaving an apartment building in the area of Hyde Park and was arrested moments later without incient.

In addition to his Maine warrant for escape, there were outstanding warrants for Malmstrom stemming from a failure to appear on a domestic assault charge, for an incident that occurred May 4 in Sanford, as well as local warrants out of Massachusetts.

Crediting the teamwork among several different law enforcement agencies across county and state lines in the search for and apprehension of Malmstrom, Sanford Detective Sgt. Matthew Jones said, "It was this teamwork and coordination that was instrumental in apprehending a fugitive from justice who had been running from the law for over two weeks. I couldn't have been more pleased with the rapid response we received from BPD's Fugitive Unit today when we called them and told them we believe one of our fugitives is in your city. This was the best ending we could have hoped for with a case like this. Nobody got hurt and Tyler Malmstrom is back in custody."
