OWLS HEAD — Mildred E. Staples, 92, died March 24, 2017, at Pen Bay Medical Center, after a period of declining health.

Born in Rockland on March 17, 1925, she was the daughter of Cleveland P. and Esther M. Wall Harvey. She was educated in Rockland schools.

On Sept. 22, 1970, she married Roswell Paul Staples in Rockland.

Mildred's working career began at Harvey Taxi in Rockland. She later worked at the First National Store and at National Sea Products. More recently and until her retirement, she worked as a dispatcher and driver, at her husband's business, Schooner Bay Taxi Company in Rockland.

For many years, Mildred was a member of the Rockland Lodge of Elks Emblem Club and the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. 1, Auxiliary. She enjoyed the many friendships made at both of those organizations.

In addition to her parents; Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Roswell Paul Staples on June 24, 2016; one son, Richard E. Lawry; and four siblings, George C. Harvey, Roger N. Harvey, Harold E. Harvey and Ethelyn L. Whittemore. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Bradley J. and Sheila Dodge of Camden, and Terry and Patti Lawry of St. George; four grandchildren, Wendy Dodge, Suzzy Stowell and her husband, Adam, Kelsey A. Lawry, and Trevor Lawry; one great-grandson, Parker; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit Sunday, May 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 15, at 11 a.m. at Ocean View Cemetery on Spruce Head Road in South Thomaston.
