Midcoast Community Chorus invites singers to register to sing in anniversary concert

Thu, 02/01/2018 - 1:30pm

Midcoast Community Chorus celebrates the tenth year of its mission to “Sing as a community for the community.”   All singers, ages 13 and up, of all abilities – novice singer, alumni, new to the area – are invited to register for the upcoming semester in preparation for the June 2018 anniversary concert.  No auditions are necessary.

MCC consists of 150-plus members from approximately 17 communities. Together these many voices prepare weekly to create a community music experience that is empowering for both audience and performers.

Artistic Director Steven Weston will again lead the chorus, accompanied by Sean Fleming, assistant director. Rehearsals are times of practice, learning, new challenges, good humor and positive energy.

Registration occurs on Mondays, February 19 and 26, from 5 to 6:15 p.m, in the Fellowship Room of the First Congregational Church, 55 Elm Street, Camden.

Rehearsal follows immediately in the Sanctuary and occurs each Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, until June 11, concluding with the concert on Saturday, June16.  Parking is available in the church lot. A semester fee of $80 provides for music and rehearsal space. Scholarships and payment plans are available. For more information: mccsings.org, or call 207-975-0582.

Music for the tenth anniversary concert will include a selection of songs from decades since 1920, as well as choristers’ favorites from the past ten years. Additional new music will continue MCC’s tradition of bringing music of various cultures, traditions and musical genres while expressing values of harmony, peace and justice. Singers give voice to accomplish MCC’s vision statement - “When we sing, we change who we are.  When we change who we are, we change the world.”

Singers interested in performing more complex music with independent preparation have an opportunity to join the MCC Chorale, an auditioned ensemble of about 45 members. Steven Weston will also direct the chorale in the June concert. A membership fee of $30 fee provides music for members of this group.
