CAMDEN — For 15 years, Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC) has celebrated the diversity of voices and the strength found in singing together. Midcoast Community Chorus is now registering new and returning singers for their spring 2024 season and has announced that the group will be performing "Sing for the Cure," a powerful song cycle commissioned by the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“This emotionally resonant piece explores the journey of a cancer patient, and promises to be a life-changing experience for singers and audiences alike,” said MCC, in a news release.

In addition to the powerful message of the piece, Midcoast Community Chorus emphasizes the joy and camaraderie found in singing together.

“MCC singers are not only part of a musical journey but also an inclusive and fun-loving community,” said MCC Operations Manager Anna Jones, “and our rehearsals together this spring should be a beautiful, moving and enjoyable experience.”

“Sing for the Cure" lends support and solidarity to all those dedicated to finding a cure, with proceeds from purchase of the music rights going to the Komen for the Cure organization.

Additionally, MCC has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Penobscot Bay YMCA LIVE STRONG program to further the mission of this poignant musical piece.

Led by Artistic Director Jeffrey Maynard, the Midcoast Community Chorus will craft a unique version of this remarkable composition, said the release.

No audition is required, making this an inclusive opportunity for all singers to participate.

“The chorus invites individuals of all backgrounds and abilities to join this unforgettable musical endeavor,” said MCC.

In-person registration will begin on Monday, February 5 and will continue over the next three Mondays: February 12, 19, and 26. Registration time is 5:30 p.m., at the First Congregational Church, located at 55 Elm Street in Camden and rehearsals will follow registration. Weekly rehearsals run from 6:30-8:30 p.m., on Monday evenings until June 17.
