Megunticook Rowing Junior competitive varsity team claims victory at invitational event

Megunticook Rowing's Junior Competitive varsity team claimed victory at an invitational scrimmage hosted by Merrymeeting Community Rowing Association on the Androscoggin River in Brunswick, Friday, September 8. The sunny afternoon turned cloudy and a downpour dowsed the rowers as they waited on the start line with boats from Merrymeeting Community Rowing and Yarmouth Rowing Club.

The Megunticook Rowing boys first varsity four (BV4+) finished first out of ten boats with a time of 21:30. besting their nearest competitor, second place Yarmouth, by nearly a minute over the 5K up and back course. The boat was rowed by Tucker Grinnell, Calvin James, Hugh Leavitt and Henry Chamberlin, coxed by Kylie Fong and coached by Tris Coburn.

The Megunticook Rowing girls first varsity four (GV4+) triumphed over boats from Merrymeeting and Yarmouth.with a time of 23:52 over the 5K course. The boat was rowed by Sadie Mills, Marta Denny, Caroline Looke and Tessa Mott, coxed by Sophie Love-Webb and coached by Megunticook Rowing Head Coach, Amy Wilton.

Megunticook's Olivia Goodwin-Cook and Ellie Silverio bested their competition by 90 seconds rowing a double (G2X) with a time of 25:46. The Megunticook Rowing girls second varsity four (G2V4+) completed the 5K course with a time of 25:58. The boat was rowed by Lyra Kalajian, Sage Curtis, Hannah Walker and Tessa Meil and coxed by Abby Nathan. Both boats were coached by Amy Wilton.

The next race for the Megunticook Rowing juniors will be the Textile Regatta in Lowell, Massachusetts on October 8 hosted by the Merrimac River Rowing Association. Megunticook Rowing's boys first varsity four has been selected to compete at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 22.
