Megunticook Rowing crews shine at Moose on the Malden Regatta

Megunticook Rowing and Camden Hills Crew rowed to victory at The Moose on the Malden Regatta last Sunday in Malden, Mass., May 21, bringing home a boatload of medals. It was a sunny Sunday one the Malden river with 14 clubs competing on the 2-lane, 1500 meter Malden River course. Parents and fans lined the river’s edge and provided food and moral support for the rowers.

Camden Hills Crew rowers Zach Markowitz and Trey Gilson won the Boys Varsity Double (B2X), out of a field of 4 boats in a time of 5:08.49, coached by Ryan Boitite.

Megunticook Rowing’s Varsity Girls Four (GV4+) came in third overall in a fleet of 10 boats with a time of 5:35.05, rowed by Ariel Power, Emma Brownawell, Abby Chamberlin, Sadie Mills and coxed by Izzie Gimlewicz, coached by Amy Wilton.

The Boys Novice Four (BN4+) won their race of 11 boats with a time of 5:02.26, rowed by Marley O’Neal, Calvin James, Hugh Leavitt, Emmett Acosta and coxswain Reni Lyman, coached by Tris Coburn.

Girls 1st Novice Four (GN4+) came in 2nd/11 boats with their fastest time of the day at 6:11.80, rowed by Tessa Mott, Eve Gutheinz, Ellie Berez, Olivia Goodwin-Cook and coxed by Sophie Love-Webb, coached by Amy Wilton.

Girls 2nd Novice Four (G2N4+) raced in the Petite Final against their own Girls 3rd Novice Four (G3N4+) and finished with a time of 6:14.89 and 6:45.59 respectively. That put them 3rd and 4th overall in a fleet of 5 boats, coached by Leigh Dorsey and Ann McClellan.

The next race for both crews will by the Maine Youth Rowing Association Championships in Portland on Memorial Day.
