Medomak Valley pitching, hitting too much for Camden Hills in season opener

ROCKPORT – The Camden Hills softball team hosted Medomak Valley Thursday in a makeup game April 22 that was postponed due to field conditions as schools everywhere battle Mother Nature.

The Panthers used strong pitching, solid hitting and good defense to overpower the Windjammers 13-5 to open the 2015 season. 

Freshman Gabby DePatsy had total control in the circle for the Panthers. Appearing in her first official high school game she allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out nine batters.

Paige Morgridge started for Camden Hills in the circle and was replaced by Gillian Lafleche and Hilary Merrifield. The trio combined allowed 13 runs on 12 hits and five walks while fanning four.

DePatsy helped herself out at the plate as well (2 singles, double, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Sophie Cohen had (2 doubles, 3 runs, 3 RBIs), Hannah Watmough (single, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Josie Jameson (2 singles, run), Abby Nelson single, RBI, 3 runs), Stephanie Hill (single, 2 runs), Mckenzie Wing (single, RBI), and Miranda Belcher (single, RBI).

For Camden Hills, Laticia Billings had (single, double, 2 RBIs), Kristen Keiran (double, single, 2 runs), Julianna Haynes (single, run), Maddie Wickenden (single, 2 RBIs), and Rachel Pease (single, run).

Medomak Valley scored six of their runs in the fourth inning breaking the game open.

Camden Hills will host Oceanside on Friday, April 24 at 1 p.m., weather permitting, while Medomak will host Mount View today.
