The Medomak Valley Land Trust has recently acquired a new 6-acre parcel of land in Friendship on Martin Point, thanks to the generosity of the former landowners, Penny Axelrod and Jerry Haller.

"We are pleased to donate 5.9 acres on Martin Point as an addition to the existing Martin Point Wildlife Reserve. Maintenance of open land for conservation, preservation of natural habitat, and the enjoyment of unspoiled trails for visitors is good for our souls and important for our delicate environment," said Penny Axelrod, in a news release. The parcel, though small, permanently protects a section of trail at the popular Martin Point Preserve, thus forever ensuring public access to this important preserve.

Martin Point Reserve was opened to the public in 2013, when landowners Bob and Judy Zeitlin placed a conservation easement on their property. Thanks to the Zeitlins’ foresight and generosity in donating a conservation easement and trail access across their property, the Martin Point Wildlife Reserve will retain its wild character and will remain protected in perpetuity.  With the additional donation from the Axelrod-Haller’s, which preserves a key section of trail, local residents as well as visitors will be able to walk the trails on this beautiful land forever.  Visitors are welcome to share in the quiet beauty of this area for hiking and bird watching, and in the winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
