The Midcoast sports scene was busy with several sporting events on Sunday, May 21.

Babe Ruth Baseball: Granite Coast Orthodontics 8, Georges Valley 1

At Thomaston, Granite Coast Orthodontics defeated Georges Valley 8-1 Sunday in Midcoast Babe Ruth Baseball League play. True Crane was strong pitching for the win for Granite Coast Orthodontics, giving up one unearned run on two hits and a walk, with ten strikeouts, over five innings. Bennet Geis pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning and Jason Greenleaf pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to complete the win.

At the plate, Granite Coast Orthodontics broke open a 3-1 game with five runs in the top of the seventh. Leading the balanced attack were Jay Hokkanen with a hit, an RBI, and two runs scored, Bennet Geis with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored, Gage Whalen with a hit, two steals, and a run scored and Aedan Kehoe with a hit, a steal, and a run scored.

Granite Coast Orthodontics had eight runs on eight hits and five walks, while committing two errors and leaving 11 runners on base. Georges Valley had one run on two hits and a walk, while committing five errors and leaving two runners on base.

"This team only won three games last year, so to get a win against a tough opponent on opening day is exciting for us." said Granite Coast Orthodontics coach Tom Hedstrom. "I'm very pleased with our pitching today, and the way the players adjusted hitting and fielding as the game went on."
