The Midcoast sports scene was busy with several sporting events on Wednesday, May 17.

Below are the scores and stats for those contests that were reported to our sports department.

Varsity Baseball: Oceanside 9, Lincoln Academy 8

Lincoln Academy (1-10) scored two runs in each the second, third and seventh innings and one run in each the fourth and sixth. Oceanside (6-3) scored one run in each the first and seventh innings, two runs in the third and five in the sixth. 

On the mound for Oceanside: Jack Freeman (5.1 innings, six runs, five earned runs, six hits, five strikeouts, three walks, two hit-by-pitch), Matt Waldron (0.2 innings, two runs, two earned runs, two hits, two walks) and Logan Sheridan (one inning, one hit, two strikeouts). 

On the mound for Lincoln Academy was Baker Gove (6.1 innings, nine runs, three earned runs, 12 hits, five strikeouts, two walks). 

At the plate for Oceanside: Michael Dougherty (two singles), Sheridan (two singles, two RBIs), Coby Dorr (two singles), Connor Harvey (two singles, two RBIs). 

At the plate for Lincoln Academy: John Henry (two singles, RBI), Bradley Cross (two singles, RBI) and Sam Laemmie (two singles). 

Harvey drove in pinch-runner Uriah Thongsaphaphone for the winning run in walk-off fashion on a suicide bunt. 

Varsity Softball: Oceanside 13, Lincoln Academy 1

Oceanside (7-2) scored two runs in the first, four in both the third and fifth and three in the fourth innings. Lincoln Academy (1-10) scored its lone run in the fifth. 

In the circle for Lincoln Academy: Kourteney McKena (two innings, three strikeouts, two walks) and Caroline Fowler (three innings, seven walks). 

In the circle for Oceanside: Chloe Jones (five innings, 11 strikeouts, two walks). 

At the plate for Lincoln Academy: Ari Gerrais (two singles) and Christine Fowler (double, RBI). 

At the plate for Oceanside: Hannah Moholland (two doubles, three RBIs), Jones (two singles, RBI), Alexis Mazurek (single, two RBIs), Morgan Heal (single, RBI), Haylie Whitham (single, RBI), Abby Veilleux (single) and Kalli Grover (single). 

“Chloe Jones lead the way today with a great pitching performance and a [two] hit day as well knocking in [one RBI],” stated Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. “She threw all her pitches today striking out 11 and only walking [two] on the day. Her fast ball was exploding onto the plate and she had a great curve ball as well today.”
