BELFAST — Marty Weaver, 77 of Belfast passed away February 13, 2018 in Bangor. Marty was a woman of incredible energy, enthusiasm, intelligence and resilience. She will be sorely missed.

Marty was born in Wyoming, Ohio on October 22, 1940 to the late Bruce and Virginia Strain. During her childhood she spent many happy summers at Merrymeeting Camp near Bath, Maine. She graduated from Wyoming High School where she began her athletic foundation in tennis and basketball. She earned a degree in history from Carleton College in Minnesota, and remained an avid reader of history, politics and current affairs. She later earned a Master's Degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Marty was a dedicated children's librarian throughout her life. She was the Lincolnville Elementary librarian for over a decade, where she organized celebrations of Dr. Seuss's Birthday, conducted reading groups and championed the school garden.

Marty loved the outdoors, and lived in Montana for over 25 years with her then husband Theodore Weaver. There she raised two children, served as a school board member, and was integral in the foundation of an alternative school and a cultural center in her community. Searching for fresh adventure, Marty moved to Belfast in 1997. In addition to her work with Lincolnville School, she embraced hiking, gardening and kayaking. She was also a true political and environmental activist.

Marty was predeceased by her parents and her brother-in-law John Thomas Weaver. She is survived by her son Theodore and daughter Molly, and her son-in-law, James Nichols; her siblings John Strain, David Strain and her twin brother Stephen Strain; her grandson Liam Nichols, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

All her friends and acquaintances of any kind are invited to Marty's memorial service that begins at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 22 at the Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Avenue Belfast, Maine with a somewhat informal memorial service at five. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picture of Marty to share.
