ROCKPORT — Marion Arlene Rogers Johnson, 81, died peacefully July 19, 2016, surrounded by family, at Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland on May 15, 1935, she was the daughter of Clarence and Addie (Williams) Rogers. Educated locally, Marion was a 1953 graduate of Rockland High School.

On Nov. 12, 1955, Marion married the love of her life and best friend, Ray Johnson, in Rockland. The couple moved to Ft. Devons, Mass., where Ray was first stationed, and during his long career they were stationed in Massachusetts, Germany, Kansas, Colorado Springs and North Dakota. After Ray's retirement the family settled back in their beloved Rockland, on the coast of Maine.

Marion was a proud and dedicated Army wife and homemaker. First and foremost, Marion was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from her children and many grandchildren. She also loved going to Bingo, traveling, riding around the waterfront and going fishing with her husband, and visiting with family. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Marion was predeceased by her husband in 2006; and a brother, Alton Rogers. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Johnson and his partner, Darlene Lowell, of Cape Coral, Fla.; her daughters, Kathy Maynard of Rockport, Cindy Merrifield and her husband, Mike, of Rockport, Linda Larson and her husband, Mark, of Miltona, Minn., and Teresa Johnson and her husband, Sam Hanes, of Old Town; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Eric and Jennifer Maynard, Jessie and Denise Johnson, Christopher Larson, Rachel Maynard, James Lindsey, Nicole and Aaron Kappes, Michele Johnson, and Evelyn Hanes; 12 great-grandchildren, Kaytlin, Brady, Ryan, Korinn, Tristen, Ethan, Aiden, Shey, Carson, Hudson, Peyton and Sam; two brothers, Leroy Rogers of Owls Head and Charlie Rogers and his wife, Donna, of Matinicus; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend its appreciation to the Sussman House for caring for her with such kindness during her last days.

Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, July 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a celebration of her life will be held Friday, July 22, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Achorn Cemetery.
