Man shot in late night Rockland incident

    ROCKLAND — Rockland police are investigating a shooting last night, Aug. 31, at a Park Street home. According to the police, a Rockland man is in police custody, after being shot by a homeowner.

    At approximately 11:58 p.m., a Park Street resident called 911, reporting that he had shot an intruder, who said he was there to rob the homeowner.

    The homeowner shot the suspect with a handgun, the police said in a Sept. 1 news release.

    Rockland Police Officers found Christopher Wildhaber, 45, of Rockland, hiding in the woods behind the residence. Wildhaber was taken in to custody after a brief struggle. Wildhaber was suffering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder area. The wound was non-life threatening, police said.

    Wildhaber was transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center, then to Maine Medical Center, for treatment of the gunshot wound. On his release from Maine Medical Center, Wildhaber was taken in to custody on a probation violation, and is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail. Additional charges are pending, police said.

    This case remains under investigation.
