BELFAST — A Swanville man was indicted on four charges by the Waldo County Grand Jury July 12, all relating to an assault at a residence in Swanville.

Jason L. Young, 43, was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence assault, domestic violence reckless conduct, and criminal mischief as a result of a violent altercation that left the victim in need of stitches.

According to court documents, law enforcement determined Young was involved in a physical altercation in a residence July 1.

Waldo County Sheriff’s Office troopers responded to the scene where they interviewed the victim, who was visibly injured from the altercation.

After interviewing the victim, it was discovered that Young had assaulted them in the residence by punching them in the face several times, choking them, and throwing a knife at them.

The victim reportedly told law enforcement Young had been drinking prior to the incident, and at some point his demeanor turned aggressive.

When Young threw a knife at the victim, they were able to block their face and body with their hands, though one palm received significant injury when the knife struck it. The victim later received six stitches to close the wound.

The blade of the knife is listed in court documents as being between 5-6 inches in length.

During an altercation later the same day, Young is accused of choking the same victim, during which time they attempted to defend themselves.

It was after this that the victim said Young began striking them in the face, leaving them with black eyes forming during the police interview.

Young had fled the residence prior to the arrival of law enforcement, but was arrested a short time later.
