WALDOBORO — Madelene "Maddy" Cirella, 95, died April 10, 2014, at the Knox Center Long Term Care in Rockland. She was born Aug. 24, 1918, in West Waldoboro to Hudson S. Eugley and Annie Mank. She attended grade school in West Waldoboro then attended Waldoboro High School.

She worked at Bath Iron Works during World War II as a welder, then later at the Paragon Button factory in Waldoboro. She also worked for GTE Sylvania in Woburn, Mass., and in Waldoboro until she retired.

Maddy was an avid traveler with trips to the Caribbean and Europe with her friends. She also traveled to Atlantic City, N.J., and Las Vagas, Nevada, with her husband and son, George. In the winter, Maddy and her husband lived in Orange City, Fla.

Maddy attended the West Waldoboro Community Church while in Maine. Madelene's family is very thankful and appreciative of the staff at the Knox Center for their loving care while she resided there for the past 12 years.

She was predeceased by her parents; her half-sister, Irene Spear; her husband, Frank J. Cirrella in 1998; by her first husband and father of her sons, John J. Crane II; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Maddy is survived by her sons, George H. Crane of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and John J. Crane III and his wife, Sylvia, of Port Clyde; her sister, Marion Griffin of Waldoboro; her niece, Shirley Blake and her husband, Jim, of Nobleboro; her grandchildren, John J. Crane IV and wife, Tami, of Port Clyde, Troy H. Crane and his wife, Rebecca, of Cushing, Tracy L. Chipman and her companion, Carl Chipman, of Thomaston; her great-grandchildren, Melissa L. Hopkins and her husband, Shaun, of Waterville, Jessica L. Crane and her companion, Dillon Reed, of Friendship, John J. Crane V and his companion, Deanna Davis, of Port Clyde, Troy A. Crane and his companion, Taylor Palmer, of Westbrook and Carl "CJ" Chipman of Thomaston; her great great-grandchildren, Shaun L. Hopkins Jr. of Waterville, Lukas W. Hopkins of Waterville, Brody C. Reed of Friendship, Emma Davis of Port Clyde and Autumn Porter of Appleton; her former daughter-in-law and mother of Maddy's grandchildren, Arlene Crane of Martinsville, to whom she remained very close and still considered part of her family.

Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation Monday, April 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. in Waldoboro. A service to celebrate Madelene's life will be held Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home. The Rev. Robin Honaker will officiate. Burial will be in the German Cemetery in Waldoboro.
