Union has hired Stacey Parra to be its new town clerk, effective Aug. 3. Parra, who has worked at the Rockport Town Office in varying capacities for the past 19 years, most recently as executive assistant to the town manager, resigned July 19.

“I want to thank the town for the 19 years I had here but feel it is the time to start the next chapter in my life,” wrote Parra, in her resignation letter. “I have worked with some amazing people here over the years and Rockport is fortunate to have had them.”

She started her career with Rockport on June 29, 1998.  She worked for the Town Clerk’s Office until March 26, 2001, when she was promoted to executive assistant to the town manager.

“On September 6, 2002, I also took over the role of general assistance administrator,” she said. “ In my tenure I have worked for five town managers and many amazing co-workers and select board members.  I will miss the people in and around Rockport I have met over the years.”

A Lincolnville resident, Parra has also served on that town’s board of selectmen for three terms, seeing town government from yet another perspective.  She also sat on the Mid-Coast Solid Waste Corporation Board of Directors, served as secretary of the Lincolnville Central School Parent Teacher Organization, was president and secretary of the Mid-Coast Wrestling Club, sat on the board of the Knox-Suburban Little League and Lincolnville Little League, was a member of the Regional School Consolidation Committee and the Camden-Rockport High School Reunion Committee, and was president of the Youngtown Cemetery.

Parra is looking forward to assuming a new position with the town of Union.

“I am excited to work for Jay Feyler [Union Town Manager] and the citizens of the town of Union,” she said. “It is a perfect time in my life for a change and a challenge. I can’t wait to get started.”

Rockport has begun its search to fill Parra’s position, advertising locally and with the Maine Municipal Association.
