ROCKPORT — From March 2 through 28, the Rockport Public Library will host a vibrant show of paintings by Melissa Kachan entitled, “Fluid Dreams & The Whale Song Series.”

“Kachan’s abstract works are reminiscent of vintage marbled book end paper, but more visceral and less constrained,” said RPL, in a news release.

“We are all made of many liquids that are in constant motion,” says Kachan, “so when I stumbled across the Acrylic Pour Painting Technique, I just knew it would be one of the best meditations for me to engage in — a metaphor for life itself.”

The show will feature pieces created using several different painting approaches.

“A combination of pouring, swiping, stretching, breath work, and even fire goes into getting these pieces to the finish line,” says Kachan.

Her combination of efforts results in work that feels moody, cellular, and wildly elemental, according to the release.

Melissa Kachan has lived most of her life in Maine and draws inspiration from the state’s diverse landscapes. She is the mother of three and founding artist of Virgo Rising Arts, based in Camden.
