Letter to the editor: Thank you, from the Friends of Rockport Library

The Friends of Rockport Library Board want to thank everyone who helped make our 48th annual book sale one of the best yet. Together, we raised more than $15,000 to benefit our beloved library!

Throughout the year, generous donors contributed thousands of books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and games for the sale, which were priced, sorted and boxed by our dedicated volunteers. They were very grateful to Rockport Steel for providing them a dry, warm space where that work could be done, and to E. L. Spear, the Sherwin Williams stores in Rockland and Belfast, Viking Lumber in Warren and the EBS store in Camden for providing boxes.

A few days prior to the sale, a team from Rockport Public Works transported more than one hundred borrowed tables and thousands of boxes of books to MRC, where more than fifty volunteers were busy setting up and arranging the gigantic sale. With help from members of the library staff, this cadre of workers had the sale ready to open by July 13. Still more volunteers helped us run the sale for 3 days and then boxed up any remaining books, which were donated to Goodwill when the sale ended.

Special thanks to all the buyers who bought thousands of books and helped us to raise over $15,000. Although there are too many volunteers to name in this letter, please know you are deeply appreciated by the Friends and by the Rockport Library. The money we donate will help to fund programs for children and adults and special library projects.

This is truly a "win-win" effort.
