Letter to the editor: Steve Beveridge qualified for, and dedicated to, public service

Steve Beveridge is running for Camden Selectman and we are writing to speak to his qualifications and character.

Steve has lived in Camden all his life, and his roots go back for generations in this area. He knows well the culture and habits of Maine and Maine people. He has worked hard in local government as the Director of Public Works in Rockport for 26 years, and before that he worked for Marriner's Paving Company for 19 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1971 as a helicopter pilot. For the past 23 years he and his wife Cheryl have farmed in Camden and have run the Beveridge Farmstand, selling their locally grown produce from their home on Rt. 52.

We have known Steve and Cheryl for about 45 years, mainly through our mutual church associations, and it is in this setting that we feel we have really come to know Steve. We have witnessed his total honesty and integrity, his untiring efforts to help people in time of need, and the sensitive care he has shown to others through word and deed. Many times we have seen him come to morning church services in his work clothes after being out all night long plowing snow from the local roads. His devotion to his family is unshakable. He is someone whom we admire and respect.

We can think of no one we know who would be more qualified and dedicated to this position of public service than Steve Beveridge.
