The Kelpie Gallery in South Thomaston, has donated more than $3,600 to the Sussman House since September 2017. This contribution represents 50 percent of the sale of paintings by the artist Erik Lundin.

Erik Lundin received a master’s in English literature from Ohio University and taught English literature for 10 years at Lake Superior State College in Michigan.

Lundin relocated half of the year to Madrid, Spain and Thomaston, where he spent 45 years painting geodynamic landscapes of Maine, the clay cliffs of Guadalaraja, the Seven Peaks of Cercedilla and the Ontigona Sea of Aranjuez. His collection span almost 50 years and represents painting styles influenced by his time in Spain, in the cubist tradition, and his time in Maine, in subject and palette.

In September, in collaboration with the Pen Bay Waldo Healthcare Foundation, the Gallery curated a retrospective of Erik Lundin's work and committed to contribute 50 percent of all sales of Erik Lundin's work to benefit end-of-life care at the Sussman House.

The Sussman House provides seven-day-a-week/24-hours-a-day compassionate, end-of-life care for people who need help managing pain and/or other distressing symptoms that require skilled nursing intervention that cannot be managed at home.

The Kelpie Gallery still has a number of Lundin paintings for sale.

"This is a wonderful way for people to make a beautiful gift to a loved one, while giving back to the community at the same time. I can't think of a more worthy cause – especially at this time of year," said Susan Lewis Baines, proprietor of the Kelpie Gallery.
