SPRUCE HEAD — The Craignair Gallery invites the public to the Opening Reception of Being Here: Inspiring Moments by Land and Sea by artist Katherine Ashby on Wednesday, February 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. Live entertainment by guitarist Carl Ashby and complementary refreshments enhances this special event.

The artist divides her time between her family cottage in Tenants Harbor and Castleton-on-Hudson, New York. She remarks that this exhibition “captures the magic of the Maine Coastline and the simple beauty of rural Upstate New York.”

Her paintings represent her unique, personal vision of the world. Therefore, her subjects are not painted just as she sees them, but rather, as she feels them, according to the Craignair Gallery, in a news release.

Ashby explains: “I am interested in the representation of time. Many of my paintings capture dusk and are a reflection of a place in its final moments before days end. I am inspired by the way in which light and shadows can reflect the ephemeral nature of life.”

Ashby holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art and Psychology from Russel Sage College in Troy, New York.

Being Here: Inspiring Moments by Land and Sea is on exhibition from February 28 until April 30. The Craignair Gallery, located at 5 Third Street in Spruce Head, is open daily. For more information, contact innkeeper@craignair.com or visit www.craignair.com/gallery.
