UNION – Karen Ann Thomas Hupper, 53, died unexpectedly Aug. 22, 2014, at her home.

Born in Rockland on Feb. 20, 1961, she was the daughter of Howard and Beverly Parsons Thomas. Educated locally, Karen was a graduate of Rockland District High School.

Following high school Karen worked as a waitress and cook at several local restaurants, including the Wayfarer and Harpoon.

On March 14, 1987, she married Marshall Hupper in Port Clyde. Together they raised their family there until recently moving to Union.

Karen is remembered as an excellent cook, who embodied the words “home cooking.” She was a caregiver at heart, caring for her aging parents, as well as raising her children. She was always willing to help anyone in need, whether opening her home for a place to stay or her heart for wise advice. Family was her number one priority. She loved spending time with her grandson, and was overjoyed to learn of the expected arrival of her second grandchild. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy.

Karen's passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Karen was predeceased by her parents; a brother, James Thomas; a stepbrother, Arthur Thomas; a sister, Janice Robinson; a stepsister, Patricia Brown; and a nephew, Shawn Pease. She is survived by her husband, Marshall of Union; her son, Whitney Hupper and his companion, Chelsea Burnham, and her daughter, Kiley, all of Port Clyde; her daughter, Sierra Hupper and her son, Treyven Johnson, of Cushing; her sister, Beverly Pease and her husband, Shannon, of Cushing; her brother, Alan Thomas and his wife, Nancy, of Freedom; a special friend, Patty Monroe of Union; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held Friday, Aug. 29 at noon at Village Cemetery on Erin Street in Thomaston. The Rev. Douglas Anderson will officiate.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
