UNION — Let's just call it Championship Saturday in the Five Towns area as the Five Town Football JV Jammers added to the special day that was Nov. 4.

As the Camden Hills girls soccer team had begun their quest towards winning their second consecutive Class A soccer crown, the Five Town Football third and fourth graders did something special in their own right in capping off a 9-0 season and winning the Coastal Youth Football League JV Championship 7-6 over the rock solid Belfast Lions travel football program.

The Jammers took an early 7-0 lead on a Hollis Schwaim touchdown that saw #62 zig-zag around and through defenders to get to the goal line. The extra point conversion would prove vital.

The score remained as Belfast seized control of the ball throughout the third and early fourth quarter with a number of jet sweeps left and right, finally punching it in. Needing the extra point to force a tie, the Jammers defensive front lead by Jacob Harrington stuffed the Belfast ball carrier and kept the score at 7-6.

The Jammers took the ball for the remainder of the final stanza, picking up crucial first downs including a long run by Schwaim inside the Lions five yard line.

The Jammers were then able to run out the clock and earn the title of champions.

This is the second junior varsity championship for Five Town Football who also went undefeated in 2013.

Additionally, the Belfast travel football JV squad earned the CYFL Sportsmanship Award as voted upon by the group of officials that work these games throughout the season. This was evident as the Lions came to the Jammers side of the field upon the trophy presentation and administered high fives all around.
