SEARSMONT and DUNNELLON, Fla. — Joy Ann (Rowlands) Fearney passed away to be with her Lord on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 1944, daughter of Harold and Yola (Agugliaro) Rowlands.

She graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast in 1962 and from the University of Maine at Orono in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in math. She taught secondary math for 35 years, mostly at North Branford High School in Connecticut, and earned a master’s degree and sixth-year degree in administration during those years.

She was active in her church, participating in music and other ministries. Her children, grandchildren and grand-nephews were a joy to her, along with her flower gardens. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Red, and loved to sing.

She was predeceased by her parents; and a niece, Tracy Rowlands. Joy is survived by her husband, Carroll "Red" Fearney; a daughter, Annette Torsak and her husband, Dale and their children, Roger and Wyatt Heady of Buchanan, Tenn.; her sons, Charles Stratton and his wife, Rosa, and their children, Kelley and Andrew of Winthrop, and Robert Snedeker and his wife, Lynette, of Leyden, Mass.; and a brother, Roger Rowlands and his wife, Brenda, and their son, Dean and his wife, Melinda, and their sons, Connor and Colby. She also has two stepdaughters, Renee and her daughter, Amanda, and Kristin and her children, Hasiah, Isabella and Elijah.

A memorial service will be held in her honor Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden. Interment took place privately at Morrill Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Crohns/Colitis Foundation or Waldo County Hospice.
