BELFAST - Jennie Lou Dilling Nordberg, 87, of Belfast, passed away on Jan. 11, 2017, after a brief illness. She had been a resident of Harbor Hill Facility in Belfast for 17 years.

She was born in Easton in 1929, daughter of Glenwood and Elva Dilling. She spent her childhood in Northport, and graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast in 1947.

She married the love of her life, Clarence (Barney) Nordberg, in the 1960s. Sadly, he predeceased her in 1978. They lived in New Jersey before moving to Maine in the early 1970s. Though she had no children of her own, much of her life was devoted to caring for others, including the Carver and Krementz families in New Jersey, and her own great-nephew, Chris Carroll, in Maine. She managed the Ross Home in Belfast for several years, where she took care of many elderly residents. She earned awards from Maine School Nutrition for her service at the Searsport schools, and later worked at the Carver Memorial Library, where she was greatly appreciated by customers and staff alike.

She made incredibly beautiful afghans and other things with her skillful knitting and crocheting. She loved being near the sea, and would often sit by the wharf watching the water and the boats. She had an amazing sense of humor and quick wit, which was appreciated by family and friends alike.

Jennie will be missed by her sister, Mary (Walter) Rollerson of Searsport; and her brother, Victor (Kathy) Dilling of Stevensville, Md.; her nieces, Michele (Mike) Light of Searsport, their two children and five grandchildren, and Debbie Harriman and her son; along with nephews David (Winnie) Chaney of Searsport, their three children and one grandchild, Brad (Tracy) Rollerson and their two children of Belfast, Steele (Carrie) Dilling of Ridgely, Md., their five children and two grandchildren, Christopher Dilling of Edgewater, Fla., and his two children, and Craig (Tami) Dilling and their three children of Stevensville, Md. She also leaves behind her wonderful extended family at Harbor Hill, both residents and the very caring staff who have done so much to assure her comfort over the past several years.

Special thanks to Peggy Krementz, whose generosity made it possible for Jennie to be in a private room for many years.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Library at Harbor Hill, with a spring burial at Village Cemetery in Searsport. Arrangements by Young's Funeral Home in Searsport.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Recreation Dept. at Harbor Hill, Attn: Peggy (Recreation Director) 2 Footbridge Road, Belfast, ME 04915.
