SEARSPORT - Janice (Colby) Teeney, 76, died Oct. 14t, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born May 26, 1940, in Liberty, a daughter of Laurence and Marie (Dean) Colby.

Janice was born and raised in Maine and was a 1958 graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast. She married Wayne Teeney of Brooks, where they started their family, having had four daughters. The family shortly thereafter moved to Connecticut for many years and she then returned to Maine with Wayne and lived in Searsport until her passing.

She truly enjoyed her family as they gathered for holidays, birthdays and vacationed at the beach in Connecticut and Maine. She loved to travel around the country with Wayne in their camper and snuck a few girl trips in with daughters and friends. Her spitfire personality, love for animals and selflessness in putting her loved ones and others first are qualities for which she will be fondly remembered.

She worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses while in Connecticut and was also employed by the Searsport Water District and MBNA, once she was back in Maine.

Janice was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Dean Colby; and her sisters-in-law, Joyce (Teeney) Crosby and Norma (Teeney) Rich.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Teeney; her daughters, Valerie Relyea of Searsport, Joanne Toussaint and her husband, Mark, of Land O’Lakes, Fla., Priscilla Jacques and her husband, Lloyd, of Wallingford, Conn., and Leslie Nguyen of Wallingford, Conn. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Benjamin Relyea, Crystal Nguyen, Justin Toussaint, Lloyd Jacques, Vinnie Nguyen, Corey Toussaint, Chelsea Nguyen, Nicholas Kirychuk, Alicia Jacques, Cinnamin Kirychuk and Andrea Toussaint; as well as four great-grandchildren, Jayna and Jasannah Relyea, and Jeremiah Nguyen and Lily Jacques; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline (Colby) Hodges; her sisters-in-law, Wenda (Teeney) Brown and Maxine (Teeney) Curtis and her husband, Charles.

The family will be grieving privately and will be celebrating her life in the spring of 2017.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janice's name to the Waldo County Humane Society, P.O. Box 479, Belfast, ME 04915.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
