SEARSPORT — J Robert Mueller, age 87 of Searsport, passed away peacefully on May 9 surrounded by his wife Mary and son William, at the Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, Maine.

Bob was born in Chicago and grew up in Detroit, Michigan and proudly attended University of Michigan prior to his service as a captain in the US Marine Corps. He married Sally (Keilholtz) Mueller (predeceased) and together raised six children. Bob spent almost his entire career working with IBM. He traveled extensively throughout Europe with IBM, and the family moved cross country between the east and west coasts several times. Bob and Sally moved to Maine after retirement many years ago. In Searsport, Sally started a beloved antique business called the Whale Watch. For years they attended local auctions and estate sales uncovering treasures for sale in the shop until Sally's death in 2000. Later, Bob married Mary (Mooney), a lifelong Maine resident and nurse from Bangor. Together Bob and Mary enjoyed living in Searsport, spending time with friends and family, boating and a good British mystery. Bob was a voracious reader and enjoyed searching for his next great read at the library in Searsport.

Bob is survived by his wife Mary (Mooney) Mueller, his sister, Mary Taie and a large extended family. Bob was loved by many including his children; Richard Keilholtz Mueller (Victoria) of Redondo Beach, CA, Andrea Mueller Scholz (William) of Scottsdale, AZ, Robert Keilholtz Mueller (Vicki) of Ridgefield, CT, Peter Drake Mueller of Scottsdale, AZ, William Van Dusen Mueller of Nederland, Colorado and Michael Ripley Conklin Mueller (Andrea) of Sante Fe, NM. Bob is also survived by his step-sons Patrick Corbett (Elyse) of Freeport, Maine and Michael Corbett (Heather) of Brewer, Maine. Additionally, he leaves behind a large and loving group of grandchildren: Erick Mueller, Brooke Mueller Whitefield (Bryan), William (Gus) Scholz (Brinde), Robert Scholz, James Scholz, Keil Mueller, Drake Mueller, Sawyer Mueller and six step-grandchildren including Madeline Corbett, Claire Corbett, Owen Corbett, Lydia Corbett, Audrey Isom and Christina Isom Wilburn (Zachary). As the family continues to grow, Bob was pleased to become a great-grandfather, welcoming Knightley, Lennox, Goldy and Kaia into the family fold.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service in his honor will be held on Saturday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave in Belfast, Maine.
