ROCKLAND – Hannaford's of Rockland presented the Midcoast School of Technology with a check for $1,000 on Wednesday, April 25, at the school. Beth Fisher, MCDT director, and Sherry Moody, MCST business manager, accepted the check from Hanaford employees Ben Convery, Rockland store manager, Angella Pellerin and Christine White.

Convery said Hannaford's runs a program called "Help Schools."

"When customers buy items they earn school dollars that they can donate to local schools" he said. "MCST received the most dollars in our Rockland Hannaford's store, so they were awarded a $1,000 bonus check from Hannaford."

Convery said there are items in the store that qualify when purchased.

"As a customer checks out they are printed out school dollars and there is a tower with all kinds of school names," he said. "The customer can go to the tower and put their dollars in which ever school they choose."

MCST received the most dollars and was awarded the $1,000 bonus check.

Beth Fisher, MCST director said the check will go into a scholarship fund.

"We love dollars from the community," she said. "A jury will judge the scholarship application and will be awarded to a student so they might continue their education."

Fisher said this is not the first time the school has been awarded a check from Hannaford's.

Convery said the store makes the award once a year.

"Every year we've been running the program," he said. "And it has been very, very popular and successful. The community loves it and they get an opportunity to give back to those schools."
