THORNDIKE — Guy R. Porter Sr. passed away Oct. 12, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Guy was born Oct. 22, 1927, to William and Geneva Porter in New Brunswick, Canada.

Guy was a hard worker and he started work in the woods at a young age. Then he went to Penobscot Poultry and Maine Reduction. He drove tractor trailer trucks throughout New England and into Canada. He helped to build the Waldo County Vocational School. He started at Krisway in 1985, retiring in 1993. After taking a few months off he went back to Krisway working in the garage. After that he went to work at Hodges in Unity and retired June of 2014 after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Along the way Guy made many friends as he was well liked by many. This was in part because he was a good listener, a good source of advice, a kind and caring man, and a very good story teller. Guy enjoyed singing and playing his guitar.

Guy was a member of The Living Church of God. He believed greatly in God and read his Bible faithfully. He was a man who always tried to do the right thing and would always lend a hand when needed.

Guy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Porter; his children, Nancy Bradeen of Unity, Guy Jr. of Swanville and his friend, Kathryn Hutchinson, Betty Cronin and her spouse, Pat, of Montville and Susan Porter of Brooks; his sisters, Elva Littlefield, Ellen Roberts and Leila Cole; his brother, Cecil Porter; his grandchildren, Allison Peckham and her spouse, Frank, Aaron Bradeen and his spouse, Kim, Robert Potter, Jaime Oakes, Melissa Potter, Bobby Porter, Brandon Cyr and his spouse, Megan, and Danielle Cyr; many great-grandchildren; special hephews, David Porter and his spouse, Rhonda, and Timothy Porter, who have helped a great deal over the past few months.

Guy was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence, Wallace, Glenn, Carroll and Sydney Porter;  and his sisters, Dorothy Koch, Beulah Porter and Marianne Porter.

Special thanks to the Maine General Hospice staff, as well as to Cathy.

Thanks to all who visited and sat with him telling stories, making him laugh and just making his day a little better.

Guy was a special man and will be missed by many.

There will be a gathering at his home in Thorndike on Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon for family and friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
