The Camden Hills Regional High School Visual and Performing Arts Department selected Gideon Baeza as Student of the Month for September, based upon Gideon’s work during the summer and continued involvement in arts programs at Camden Hills Regional High School.

For the past two summers, Gideon has been a music theater intern at a local camp program – combining his two passions: theater and filmmaking. Gideon has been a cast member of the annual Camden Hills fall musical each year of his high school career. Last year, he played the romantic lead role of “Eddie” in the CHRHS production of Sister Act. This year, he will be playing the fatherly role of “Kevin” in the current CHRHS production of In the Heights.

In addition to being involved in musical theater, Gideon is a leading member within the CHRHS Choral program. He has sung tenor for four years in Chorale and Chamber Singers; been accepted to the MMEA District III Honor Choir every year, and was accepted to the prestigious MMEA All State Choir in his sophomore and junior years. Auditions for these honor festival ensembles are coming up this fall, and Gideon hopes to continue his good track record of acceptance!

Outside of the classroom, Gideon is co-director of The Off Beats (a student led vocal a cappella ensemble)which entails choosing music, directing after school rehearsals each week, and coordinating approximately 10 public performances each school year.

Gideon has been involved in both CHRHS filmmaking courses: Intro to Film and Advanced Filmmaking. In 2016 he was enrolled in the Maine Media Advanced Film summer course. He is currently working on an Independent Study for Filmmaking at CHRHS and has plans to make Transmedia Arts his major in college. 

Gideon’s advice for younger students is to get involved in the CHRHS arts programs.

“Music and Transmedia inspired me throughout my years of high school - making me more independent, and helped to build my self confidence,” he said.
