Freedom Makers Studio in Freedom Village opens with artists, artisans

Sun, 11/19/2017 - 1:45pm

Freedom Makers Studio is a new art gallery and storefront in the heart of Freedom Village that will showcase local artists, makers and craftspersons in the Waldo County area. Housed in a historic building in Freedom Village that is known locally as the KP Hall (Knights of Pythias Hall) the studio was also a barbershop and pool hall as late as the 1950s, the circulation department of Farmstead Press in the 1970s and subsequently a workshop and art studio for local woodworkers and most recently for the late Paul Oberst, visual artist.

The new venue launched with a celebration and artist opening on Saturday, November 18 with digital collage artist Joan Proudman, photographer Johan Selmer-Larson, silk paintings and designs by Helena Melone, paintings by Max Ascrizzi, jewelry and sculpture by Joe Ascrizzi, Paintings and tarot cards by Katenia Keller, felted hats and scarves by Bernice Nadler and lighting and fine printed home décor by Dina Petrillo.

Each of these artists also run their own art and fine design businesses, and all welcome a local Waldo County venue to show their wares and encourage each other in their work and invite community to support their efforts.  Over time, a wide selection of local artisans and products will be available for sale.

The intimate venue will also host occasional events such as open mic night for musicians, art classes and small group meetings. Hours thru November and December are Friday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. and by appointment or chance.
