APPLETON — Frank A. Leigher, 82, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2017, at the Homestead in Owls Head. Frank was born in Appleton on Oct. 19, 1934, to Carolyn (Fish) and Aubert Leigher.

Frank attended schools in Appleton and resided there his entire life.

Frank's passing leaves a huge void in the hearts of his family and friends. He loved his family and blessed them with many happy memories of family gatherings, camping, hunting and fishing trips to Kokadjo, and watching boxing matches, NASCAR and local horse pulling.

In his early years Frank drove a truck for Hillcrest Poultry, worked in the woods cutting pulp and logs and was a farmer. He was a truck driver for Marriner's Paving before starting his own excavation and trucking business. The results of his many years of hard work are visible throughout the local communities. He had a knack for looking at a parcel of land and quickly estimating the amount of labor and material it would take to complete the job. His reputation was impeccable and he will be remembered by many. Frank loved working and never really retired until forced to before declining health in December 2015.

He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Dena Leigher; his grandson, Will Leigher; his sister, Muriel Knowlton; his brother, Richard Leigher; and a special brother-in-law, Louis Turner.

Frank married his loving and devoted wife, Molly (Stark) in Camden on Aug. 15, 1953. He is survived by his wife, Molly of Appleton; his daughter, Donna Hall and her partner, Alan Talbot, of Camden; his son, William Leigher and his wife, Susan, of Aldie, Va.; and his daughter, Patti Nickles and her husband, Chuck, of Owls Head. He also leaves his grandchildren, Corey Morgan of Appleton, Christina Sweet and her husband, Kenny, of Ovid, N.Y,, Albert Hall and his wife, Aubrie, of Eliot, Daniel Leigher of Arvada, Colo., Ryan Gamage and his partner, Liz Thompson, of Owls Head and Tyler Nickles of Thomaston. His great-grandchildren include Courtney, Angel, Caleb, Addelyn, Brody and Rayni. He is also survived by his brothers, Lloyd of Camden, and Bernard and his wife, Maxine, of South Carolina; and his sister, Rhodena Sullivan of Waldo; and many special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He also held a special place in his heart for his "other daughter," Wanda Wyman of Union.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton, followed by a celebration of Frank's life at the Masonic Hall in Union.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Homestead for the care they gave Frank during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Maine Health Care at Home/Hospice, 170 Pleasant St., Rockland, ME 04841.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
