First Church in Belfast turns 200 in 2018, fundraising begins for commemoration

The First Church in Belfast, United Church of Christ, is preparing to celebrate an anniversary. Next year, 2018, will be the 200th anniversary of the building of the stately church structure at 104 Church Street in Belfast.

Last summer, supporters took their first step toward the celebration of this anniversary by completing new front steps and landscaping. Part of this project is the "Friendship Walk" campaign.

Friends of First Church and the community can order a commemorative brick in an individual name, for a family, or as a memorial to a family member, or friend to be installed in the walk.

Single bricks are available for $100 or a double brick for $200. Proceeds will go to the continued maintenance of the First Church. For more information on the Friendship Walk project, call the church office at 338-2282; or go online to: http://www.thatsmybrick.com/firstchurchbelfast; or pick up a brochure from the church or the Belfast Chamber of Commerce.

Stay tuned for more information about upcoming events at First Church as its congregation celebrates and gives thanks for these past 200 years of service and presence in and with the Belfast community and surrounding area.

The First Church in Belfast, UCC is located at 104 Church St., and is an open and affirming congregation, welcoming all.
