WALDOBORO — Dwight David Monti, 40, of Waldoboro, passed away on July 18, 2016, after a long battle with diabetes and its complications.

David was born in Damariscotta on June 16, 1976, the son of Dwight Simmons and Carol (Pierce) Small. He attended local schools, graduating from Lincoln Academy in the Class of 1994.

He was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when he was just 10 years old. That put David on a bumpy road of health, but he never stopped fighting and always lived life to the fullest. He received a kidney transplant in 2008.

He always loved going to work with his dad and that led to a lifelong love of driving trucks. He started his truck driving career with his dad driving "the General." They spent many days together doing what they both loved to do.

He worked for Ferraiolo Construction, where he drove dump truck. He was so proud to do the same thing his dad did for work. He also worked for Frasers Concrete and after his transplant he worked for John Chadwick until his health no longer allowed him to work.

David loved his family, spoiling his two nephews and later his own daughter. He was willing to help anyone who needed help no matter what, no questions asked. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and love of joking around. That was his way of telling you he loved you.

David loved NASCAR and was an avid Dale Jarrett fan until his retirement from racing, and then he cheered for Kyle Bush. No matter when the race was on he would be watching.

David was predeceased by his father, Dwight Simmons; a cousin, Bruce Simmons; an uncle, Ralph Simmons; and his paternal grandparents, Stephen and Evelyn Simmons.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Small and her husband, John, of Warren; sister, Sarah Lane and her husband, Danny, of Nobleboro; his nephews, William Monti and Brenden Lane, both of Nobleboro; and his beloved daughter, Jennifer Steele of Virginia; his maternal grandparents, Bill and Jeanette Pierce of Nobleboro; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 3 p.m. at the Word of Life Church, 41 Old Route One in Waldoboro, with the Revs. Tom Rawley and Tim Connelly officiating. A celebration of life gathering will be held immediately after. Burial will be at a later date.
