Domestic violence assaults, drug trafficking, thefts top Knox County grand jury indictments

    ROCKLAND — A Knox County grand jury handed down 12 indictments Oct. 25, which represented 30 counts against 11 defendants, including an inmate at the Maine State Prison. An indictment does not imply guilt.

    Elizabeth Cole, 54, of Rockland, two counts of arson for a fire at her residence at 29 James Street on Aug. 30 in Rockland. One count of arson stipulates damaging the property and the other count relates to recklessly endangering another person or property. According to the affidavit filed in Knox County Unified Court, Cole was located by firefighters on the back porch of the residence. She made statements about wanting to die in the fire and had to be forcibly removed from the porch. Cole told the investigator from the Maine State Fire Marshalls Office during an interview at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport where she had been taken the night of the fire, that she poured gasoline in her living room and ignited the fire with a lighter. She said that her former husband wanted her to sell the house and she was concerned about where she would live next, according to the court documents. She described her residence at 29 James Street as “her forever home” and was not going to leave and would die in it.

    Jonathan D. Cougle, 19, of Rockland, aggravated assault on June 3 and domestic violence assault on June 2 in Thomaston.

    George T. Gendron, 34, of Waldoboro, operating after revocation on Feb. 22 in Camden. Gendron had a previous conviction of operating after revocation on April 17, 2015 in Rockland District Court.

    Sheri A. Gray, 38, of Rockland, unlawful trafficking of a scheduled drug, Oxycodone, and conspiracy to commit unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs on March 28 in Thomaston.

    Andrew Jura, 28, of Union, aggravated assault, domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon on Aug. 7 in Union, along with five counts of violation of condition of release, occurring from Aug. 7 to Sept. 4. Jura was arrested for allegedly hitting a woman multiple times and holding a pillow over her face while telling her that “this is how you’re going to die,” according to the affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Jura was not to have any contact with the victim after he was arrested, but allegedly made phone calls to her from jail.

    Heather C. Mansfield, 31, of Rockport, two counts of theft of services, from June 9-25, for not making payment for lodging services at the Ledges Motel and Schooner Bay Motel in Rockport. Mansfield was also indicted for failure to appear and violation of condition of release on Aug. 25 for the theft charges.

    Abernathy B. Miller, 48, of Rockland, domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and obstructing report of a crime or injury on June 19 in Rockland. According to police report filed by Rockland Police Sgt. Anthony Camporiale, the victim told Miller to leave her apartment at the Thorndike building because he had been drinking the past few days and “it was getting ugly.” Miller refused to leave and the victim went into the bedroom to call police when he allegedly grabbed the phone from her. The victim told police that they began struggling and he held her down on the floor. When she began to scream, her allegedly told her he would kill her. Miller then allegedly grabbed her left pinkie finger and bent it, breaking the tip of the victim’s finger joint, according to the court documents. Officer Jacob Shirey apprehended Miller at the Brunswick Rooms after he left the victim’s apartment. Miller told police that “nothing had happened.” According to the police affidavit, Camporiale noted that the victim was scared and appeared like she was assaulted. The victim also had bloody gouges on her arm and left breast. The victim was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment of her injuries, according to the police report.

    Carlton Owen Mitchell, 36, inmate at the Maine State Prison in Warren, trafficking in prison contraband, allegedly to another inmate on July 17.

    Seth J. Neal, 36, of Friendship, theft of property with a value more than $1,000 on March 12 in Warren.

    Daniel L. Reed Sr., 60, of Friendship, assault and two counts of disorderly conduct on June 10 in Rockport.

    Kenneth J. Wooster, 44, of Rockland, unlawful trafficking of a scheduled drug, Oxycodone, conspiracy to commit unlawful drug trafficking and criminal forfeiture on March 28 in Thomaston.
