THOMASTON — A Cushing family sustained minor injuries when the Honda Odyssey van they were traveling in crashed into a utility pole on Route 1, near the entrance to Dragon Cement.

The call came in to police around 6:41 a.m., and was reported as a single vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole.

Thomaston Police Chief Kevin Haj said that Jane Tarbox, 24, was driving the 2002 Honda van north on Route 1 when she drifted to the right of the road and might have gone off the road with one or both tires.

“She wasn’t sure if she got her wheel off the road, but she over-corrected, crossed the southbound lane and hit the pole head-on,” said Haj.

Traveling in the van with Tarbox were Yvette Tarbox, 49, Harold R. Tarbox, 49, and Harold R. Tarbox Jr., 23. While Jane sustained minor injuries, her passengers all sustained minor and non-life-threatening injuries, according to Haj.

Haj said that Thomaston Fire and EMS responded, as well as Warren Ambulance, North East Mobile Health and Rockland EMS. As part of the regional mutual aid agreement, a South Thomaston ambulance responded to the Rockland station for coverage.
