Convicted Searsmont man charged with sex crime, arrested for probation violation

    SEARSMONT — A former Lincolnville man who had been sentenced March 1, 2016, to eight years in prison with all but one year suspended after being convicted of unlawful sexual contact with a child under the age of 14, was arrested on the evening of Feb. 22 and summonsed for a charge of unflawful sexual touching, Class D.

    Glenn Reed, 69, who now lives in Searsmont, was arrested by Waldo County Sheriff’s deputy Merl Reed (no relation). Reed was also charged with a violation of probation, and transported to Waldo COunty Correctional Center, where he is being held with no bail allowed until he appears in court before a judge for an arraignment.

    According to the KSO in a press release, Reed’s arrest was the result of a complaint filed with Sheriff’s Office earlier in the day on Feb. 22. The complainant indicated that Reed touched her in a sexually inappropriate way while they were in a vehicle earlier in the day.

    Deputy Reed conducted interviews and gathered evidence regarding the complaint. He and a probation officer then went to Reed’s Searsmont residence, where he was summonsed on the new criminal charged and arrested on the probation violation.

    Reed, who is a lifelong registrant on the Maine Sex Offender Registry, was previously convicted of rape in 1983, according to court documents. Also according to court documents, the crime came to light when the child involved wrote about the abuse in a school assignment.
