Camden, Rockland issues parking ban ahead of Monday-Tuesday blizzard

CAMDEN — Yes, there is still a blizzard bearing down on the coast of Maine tonight. And yes, event cancellations are flying in by the minute. And if you think a couple feet of snow gives you a free pass to park on the street, that's a big, fat no.

The Camden and Rockland Police departments, just like every other municipal police department watching the weather reports, have preemptively issued a parking ban on all public streets. In Camden, the ban currently runs between 1 and 5 a.m.  In Rockland, the parking ban is from 11 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Wednesday.

"This will be strictly enforced during this snow event," said Camden Police Chief Randy Gagne. "If you need all night parking you can use the public safety lot or the Knox Mill upper lot located on Washington Street," said Gagne. "Any vehicle parked in violation is subject to ticket and tow if interfering with snow removal."

Those working in the downtown area during the storm, which is forecast to begin Monday night and continue through early Wednesday morning, are encouraged to use the public safety and Knox Mill lots to allow the highway department access to remove snow and cleanup.

Gagne said it's possible the parking ban could extend into the evening hours Tuesday, but that decision will be made Tuesday morning.

"As always we thank you for your cooperation during the weather event. With your help we will be able to keep Camden's streets plowed and safe for everyone. We encourage you to stay off the roads unless travel is necessary," said Gagne.

Rockland POlice Chief Bruce Bouchard said, “We thank you for your cooperation during this weather event. Public Works will be able to keep our streets plowed and safe for everyone. We strongly advise you to stay off the roads unless travel is necessary. Please check our Facebook page for updates on this ban should the need arise.
