    The Camden Public Library presents the following upcoming events at the Library from Nov. 26 - Dec. 10.

    Tuesday, Dec. 1
    Camden Conference discussion session on “War and Reconciliation: Africa’s Dilemma,” 7 p.m., at the Camden Public Library, in anticipation of the Camden Conference in February. All are welcome to join the discussion. The establishment of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission was a pioneering international event. Never had any country sought to move forward from despotism to democracy both by exposing the atrocities committed in the past and achieving reconciliation with its former oppressors.

    Wednesday, Dec. 2
    Monthly meeting of the Midcoast Stroke Support Group, 10 a.m. at the Camden Public Library, all are welcome.

    Thursday, Dec. 3
    Author Roger C. Taylor will present “L. Francis Herreshoff: Yacht Designer” at the Camden Public Library at 7 p.m. Taylor was the founder of International Marine Publishing of Rockport; his book on Herreshoff chronicles the life and work of the most remarkable yacht designer of his time.

    Friday, Dec. 4
    Christmas-by-the-Sea Opening Ceremonies at the Camden Public Library, 4:30-6 p.m., featuring CHRHS vocal groups and instrumental ensembles performing seasonal selections.

    Saturday, Dec. 5
    Santa arrives by boat at Camden Harbor at 12 p.m. and goes to the Camden Public Library for Santa’s Story Hour. There will be opportunities for photographs with Santa following the story hour.

    Simply Books monthly meeting at the Camden Public Library, 2 p.m. Simply Books is a book group designed for book lovers, all are welcome.

    Sunday, Dec. 6
    Ho Ho Holiday Book Fair with children’s book authors and illustrators, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, co-hosted by the Library and Sherman’s Books. The Fair is part of Camden’s Christmas-by-the-Sea Weekend. The book fair will feature authors and illustrators Chris Van Dusen, Ronni Arno, Susan Hood, Wendy Ulmer, Sandy Crabtree, Russ Cox, Cathryn Falwell, Licia Morelli, Douglas Coffin, Sarah Thompson, G.A. Morgan, Fran Hodgkins, and Liza Kleinman.

    Tuesday, Dec. 8
    “Leer y charlar,” a read-and-chat Spanish-language reading and conversation group, 1 p.m., at the Camden Public Library, all who are conversant in Spanish are welcome.

    Tuesday Book Club monthly meeting at the Camden Public Library, 1 p.m. The book selection will be “The Wives of Los Alamos” by TaraShea Nesbit. Call 470-7473 for more information.

    Reading Group of the Camden Philosophical Society monthly meeting, 4 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Camden Public Library. All who enjoy a good discussion are welcome.

    “Clarity” Opening Reception, 6-8 p.m. at the Camden Public Library. The Camden Library will once again exhibit the work of the artist team Clarity, Robert & Su.Sane Hake, during the month of December. This year’s show, entitled “Mother Tongue,” is a show “filled with beautiful, mystical images and mythic beings, called the Mer Divinities, as well as the Herbal Tincture Fey that enter our time of Christmas,” say the artists.

    Thursday, Dec. 10
    Heidi Karod will present a slide talk on her recent trip to Peru, where she volunteered with CANAT (Center for Child and Adolescent Workers), 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library. Karod travels with her violin to help draw attention to CANAT and encourage children to enroll. She will also talk about playing her violin in the Peruvian federal prisons, psychiatry hospitals, a fishing village, and a school in a remote farming community.
