Camden hosts political debates: Emery and Miramant, Casas and Meil

    Camden will host two candidate forums to allow voters to meet the candidates for the Maine Legislature and Senate and hear their views on important issues. The debates will take place at the Camden Town Office in the Washington Street Conference Room Oct. 24 and 26.

    Dave Emery, R-Tenants Harbor, and Dave Miramant, D-Camden, will square off Monday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m. in their pursuit of representing Senate District 12, which comprises Appleton, Camden, Cushing, Friendship, Hope, Isle au Haut, Matinicus, North Haven, Owls Head, Rockport, Rockland, St. George, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Union and Warren.

    On Wednesday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m., Owen Casas, I-Rockport, and Kathleen Meil, D-Rockport, will debate each other as they compete to represent Camden, Islesboro and Rockport for House District 94.

    House District 94 seat is being vacated by Rep. Joan Welsh of Rockport due to term limits. 

    Both debates will be 90-minutes long and will be moderated by Camden Select Board Member Don White, a former broadcaster.

    Members of the local media and the public will ask the candidates questions. Panelists for the Senatorial debate will be Lynda Clancy of PenBayPilot.com; Susan Mustapich of the Camden Herald/Village Soup, and Andy O'Brien of the Free Press. Lynda Clancy and Andy O'Brien will return to question the State Legislative candidates on Oct. 26.

    Both debates will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Channel 22 in Camden and streamed everywhere on TownHallStreams.com. Both debates may be viewed at voters' convenience by going to the Town of Camden website or at TownHallStreams.com

    The public is encouraged to attend, ask questions of the candidates, and make an informed decision on November 8 Election Day.
